Bin Rentals

12 Yard Bin Rental Calgary

A step up from the 10 with the same driveway footprint — the practical choice for garages and deck teardowns.

The short version

The 12 yard is the bin people end up in when the 10 is slightly too small and the 15 feels like more than they need. It is a genuinely useful middle size and it is under-ordered mostly because people do not know it exists.

Twelve cubic yards is roughly three and a half to four pickup truck loads. Crucially, it occupies almost the same ground footprint as a 10 — the extra capacity is mostly in the wall height — so it still fits a standard Calgary driveway.

That combination is what makes it the sensible default for two very common jobs: a garage clear-out and a deck or fence teardown.

We run across Calgary — NW, NE, SW and SE — plus Airdrie, Cochrane and Chestermere.

The garage clean-out bin

A packed single-car garage is more than a 10 yard bin and less than a 15. A double-car garage that is half full lands in the same place. The 12 covers both without leaving you paying for space you never fill.

Garage contents are a mix of bulky and heavy — old lumber and plywood, shelving, bikes, a lawnmower, boxes, tires, patio furniture. Bulky enough that a 10 gets tight, dense enough that a 20 is unnecessary.

It also lets you work through it slowly. Most people do not clear a garage in an afternoon; they do it over a weekend or two, and having the bin sitting there for the duration is what makes that possible.

Decks, fences and outdoor teardowns

An average Calgary back deck — say 12 by 16 feet — produces more debris than people expect once the boards, joists, railing and stair stringers are all separated. Add the posts and their concrete footings and a 10 yard gets full fast.

The same is true of a fence line. Panels are bulky, posts are long and awkward, and concrete footings are heavy. A 12 yard handles a typical residential run without needing a second haul.

One practical note: treated lumber and painted wood cannot be composted and goes to landfill. That is normal and it does not complicate the job — it just means the material is not a compost load.

03

Placement and the extra height

Yard waste and construction debris cleared from a Calgary property

Because the 12 gains its capacity in wall height rather than length, the walls sit higher than a 10. Practically, that means slightly more effort to throw heavy items in over the side.

If you are loading anything genuinely heavy by hand — concrete footings, a stack of tile, wet lumber — that extra height is worth thinking about. Many of our bins have a rear door that swings open so you can walk material in rather than lift it over, and it is worth asking for when you book.

Footprint-wise, plan for the same space as a 10: about a parking stall, plus straight-line room for the truck to back in, and nothing overhead.

How the job runs

  1. 01

    Call with the job

403-509-2783. A packed single garage, a half-full double, or an average deck teardown are all 12 yard jobs.

  2. 02

    Confirm the drop spot

About a parking stall of space, straight-line access for the truck, nothing overhead.

  3. 03

    Ask about the rear door

If you are loading heavy material by hand, walking it in beats lifting it over a high wall.

  4. 04

    Fill it over the week

Level with the top rail. Work at your own pace — that is the advantage of a bin over a truck.

  5. 05

    Call for pickup

We haul it, or swap it for an empty if the job is still going.

WHAT WE DON’T DO
  • Load must sit level with the top rail.
  • No hazardous waste, paint, solvents, oil, propane tanks or asbestos-containing material.
  • Tires must be declared separately — they go through Alberta's tire recycling program, not general disposal.

We would rather tell you this up front than take a job we should not be doing.

FAQ

12 Yard Bin questions

How is a 12 yard different from a 10?

About 20 percent more capacity in roughly the same ground footprint — the extra volume is in the wall height. So it fits the same driveways but holds more, which is why it suits garages and deck teardowns.

Is a 12 yard bin enough for a garage clean-out?

For a packed single-car garage or a half-full double, yes. A double-car garage packed floor to ceiling is closer to a 15 or 20. Describe it on the phone and we will size it properly.

Will it hold a whole deck?

An average residential back deck around 12 by 16 feet, yes — boards, joists, railings, stairs and footings included. A large multi-level deck may need a 15 or a swap.

Can I put a fence and its concrete footings in?

Yes. Footings are heavy, so keep an eye on the total weight rather than just the volume. Say on the call how many posts are coming out and we will factor it in.

Does it have a door I can walk material into?

Many of our bins have a swing-out rear door. Ask when you book, especially if you are loading heavy material by hand — walking it in is far easier than lifting it over the side.
