15 yard bin filled with renovation debris and furniture on a Calgary job
Bin Rentals

15 Yard Bin Rental Calgary

Our most-booked size. Kitchen renovations, basement clear-outs and packed double garages all land here.

The short version

The 15 yard is the bin most people actually need, and it is the one we deliver most often across Calgary and Airdrie.

Fifteen cubic yards is roughly four and a half to five pickup truck loads. It is large enough that you are unlikely to need a second haul on a normal residential job, and still small enough to sit on a typical two-car driveway without taking the whole thing.

If you are gutting a kitchen, emptying a basement, clearing a packed double garage or doing a mid-size renovation, this is the size to start with.

We run across Calgary — NW, NE, SW and SE — plus Airdrie, Cochrane and Chestermere.

The kitchen renovation bin

A full kitchen gut produces more than people estimate. Upper and lower cabinets, countertop, backsplash tile, flooring, underlay, drywall where walls come out, plus the appliances and the packaging the new ones arrive in.

Cabinetry is the volume driver — it is bulky, awkward and does not compact. Countertop is the weight driver, particularly granite or quartz, which is dense enough to matter.

A 15 yard covers a standard Calgary kitchen comfortably. A large kitchen with an island, or a kitchen plus an adjoining dining room being opened up, edges toward a 20.

Basement clear-outs and developments

Basements are where a house's history accumulates, and clearing one produces a large volume of light bulky material — boxes, old furniture, carpet and underlay, shelving, exercise equipment, storage bins and paint-spattered leftovers from projects going back decades.

Because that material is light, volume is the constraint rather than weight, and a 15 yard is usually the right call. Carpet in particular takes far more space than people expect once it is rolled.

If the basement is being developed rather than just cleared, add the drywall, framing offcuts and old panelling to that estimate — and that is where the 15 stops being generous and the 20 starts making sense.

03

Placement on a two-car driveway

A 15 yard is meaningfully longer than a 12, and that is the practical difference at placement time. It needs a good stretch of straight driveway and enough clear length for the truck to roll it off without swinging.

On a standard two-car Calgary driveway it fits down one side and you can usually still park beside it. On a single-car driveway it will fit but it will take the driveway, which over a two-week reno is worth thinking about before you book.

Alleys work well if the pad is clear. Check for overhead wires — inner-city alleys frequently have them running low, and that is the single most common reason a delivery has to be re-sited on arrival.

04

Mixed loads and keeping the cost down

Scrap tires and accumulated material cleared during a Calgary property clean-up

Most 15 yard jobs are mixed loads, and there are two things you can do that genuinely lower the cost.

First, keep clean metal separate if there is a meaningful amount — old shelving, a furnace, ductwork, a barbecue. We pull it for scrap, and that reduces the tipping weight.

Second, break things down. Cabinets taken apart, furniture disassembled and carpet rolled tightly rather than bundled loosely can be the difference between one bin and two. It is an hour of work that can save a whole haul.

Start to finish

How the job runs

  1. 01

    Describe the project

Call 403-509-2783. Kitchen gut, basement clear-out, double garage — all standard 15 yard jobs.

  2. 02

    Check the driveway length

A 15 needs a good straight run and clear overhead. Inner-city alley wires are the usual obstacle.

  3. 03

Break material down as you load

Cabinets apart, furniture disassembled, carpet rolled tight. It can save you a second haul.

  4. 04

    Keep metal to one side

Shelving, furnace, ductwork. We pull it for scrap and it lowers the tipping weight.

  5. 05

    Call when full

Level with the top rail. We haul it away or swap in an empty.

WHAT WE DON’T DO
  • Load must sit level with the top rail so it can be tarped and legally hauled.
  • No hazardous waste, paint, solvents, oil, propane tanks or asbestos-containing material.
  • Renovations in Calgary homes built before 1990 should be tested for asbestos before demolition begins.

We would rather tell you this up front than take a job we should not be doing.

FAQ

15 Yard Bin questions

What size bin do I need for a kitchen renovation?

A 15 yard covers a standard Calgary kitchen — cabinets, countertop, tile, flooring and drywall. A large kitchen with an island, or a kitchen opened into a dining room, edges toward a 20.

How much fits in a 15 yard bin?

Roughly four and a half to five pickup truck loads. In household terms, three to four rooms of general contents, or a packed double garage.

Will a 15 yard bin fit on my driveway?

On a two-car driveway, yes — it fits down one side and you can usually still park beside it. On a single-car driveway it fits but takes the whole thing. Check for low overhead wires, which is the usual reason a drop has to be re-sited.

Can I put drywall and old carpet in it?

Yes, both are standard. Carpet takes far more space than people expect, so roll it tightly rather than bundling it loosely — it can be the difference between one bin and two.

What if I fill it before the job is done?

Call and we swap it — full one out, empty one in, same visit. That is normal on longer renovations and it means the work never stops.

Is there anything I should keep out to save money?

Keep clean metal separate — old shelving, a furnace, ductwork, a barbecue. We pull it for scrap, which reduces the tipping weight and therefore the cost.
