What a bobcat is actually good at

Moving bulk material is the core of it. Spreading a load of gravel across a parking pad, moving topsoil to where the new beds are going, pushing a debris pile into a bin, backfilling around a foundation, stripping sod off a lawn before re-turfing.
Rough grading is the other main use — getting a site level enough to build on, laying a base for a garage pad, shaping a yard so it drains away from the house rather than toward it. Drainage is a genuinely common Calgary problem on older lots and it is usually a grading issue.
And load-out. A machine loading a bin directly is dramatically faster than a crew with wheelbarrows, and on a demolition or a large clean-up it is often what makes the job a one-day job instead of a three-day one.
